Milzbranderreger tötet Heroin-Konsument in Dänemark

We wish to inform you about a confirmed case of cutaneous anthrax in an IV drug user in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The person bought heroin on the street in Copenhagen around 1 July 2012 and injected it intravenously the following days. On 5 July the person was admitted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen with leg pain and a black wound in the groin where he had injected the heroin. The clinical situation deteriorated with abdominal pain and septicaemia followed by cardiac arrest. Resuscitation was initially successful, however the person died on 8 July.

On 8 July Bacillus anthracis was detected by Maldi-Tof mass spectrometry on samples from blood and ascites. Remains of the purchased heroin have been secured and will be analyzed for the presence of anthrax bacteria. Emergency wards, on-call doctor services, clinical microbiology departments and departments of infectious diseases have been alerted. Information of the public is pending and to be decided by the police.

Das EWRS Focal Point in Dänemark warnt vor Milzbranderregern in Heroin. Laut eines Falles in Kopenhagen wurde Anfang Juli ein Heroin-Konsument mit dem Erreger infiziert. Er erwarb das Heroin am 1. Juli und spritzte es sich mehrmals intravenös. Wenige Tage später wurde er mit starken Schmerzen im Bein und einer schwarzen Wunde um die Einstichstellen in das Kopenhagener Rigshospitalet eingeliefert. Drei Tage nach Einlieferung verstarb der Patient.
Es besteht die Möglichkeit, dass das milzbrandverseuchte Heroin auch nach Deutschland gelangen kann.
